Pricing and Risk Management with High-Dimensional Quasi-Monte Carlo and Global Sensitivity Analysis

چکیده
We review and apply quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) and global sensitivity analysis (GSA) techniques to pricing and risk management (Greeks) of representative financial instruments of increasing complexity. We compare QMC vs. standard Monte Carlo (MC) results in great detail, using high-dimensional Sobol’ low-discrepancy sequences, different discretization methods, and specific analyses of convergence, performance, speed-up, stability, and error optimization for finite difference Greeks. We find that our QMC outperforms MC in most cases, including the highest-dimensional simulations and Greeks calculations, showing faster and more stable convergence to exact or almost exact results. Using GSA, we are able to fully explain our findings in terms of reduced effective dimension of our QMC simulation, allowed in most cases, but not always, by Brownian bridge discretization. We conclude that, beyond pricing, QMC is a very promising technique also for computing risk figures, Greeks in particular, as it allows us to reduce the computational effort of highdimensional MC simulations typical of modern risk management.

Enhanced Quasi-monte Carlo Methods with Dimension Reduction
In recent years, the quasi-Monte Carlo approach for pricing high-dimensional derivative securities has been used widely relative to other competitive approaches such as the Monte Carlo methods. Such success can be, in part, attributed to the notion of effective dimension of the finance problems. In this paper, we provide additional insight on the connection between the effective dimension and t...

متن کاملApplication of Global Sensitivity Indices for Measuring the Effectiveness of Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods
The quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) integration method can asymptotically provide a rate of convergence O(N−1), while the rate of convergence of the standard Monte Carlo (MC) method is only O(N−1/2). For a sufficiently large number of sampled points N, QMC should always outperform MC. However, for high dimensional problems such a large number of points can be infeasible. Many numerical experiments demo...
متن کاملRisk measurement in the global supply chain using monte-carlo simulation
Nowadays, logistics and supply chain management (SCM) is critical to compete in the current turbulent markets. In addition, in the global context, there are many uncertainties which affect on the market. One of the most important risks is supplier disruption. The first step to cope with these uncertainties is quantifying them. In this regard many researches have focused on the problem but measu...
متن کاملEstimating The Effective Dimension Of High-Dimensional Finance Problems Using Sobol’ Sensitivity Indices
Problems in many disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, and finance, can be modelled as integrals of high dimensions (hundreds or even thousands). Quasi-Monte Carlo (QMC) methods, which perform sampling using a more uniform point set than that used in MC, have been successfully used to approximate multivariate integrals with an error bound of size O((logN)kN−1) or even O((logN)kN−3/2), where ...
